I had thought the tutorial by The Technical Designer might have helped the hand issue. However, the issue I am repeatedly facing is the content or assets they don't necessarily show, which then requires more searching in attempt to find how they got to that point to start from. This tutorial in particular wants me to use Maya to reshape the hand which I have been unable to download. I was planning to attempt to continue on without this stage as it is just for the animation of the hands which isn't essential. Unfortunately, the hand model file is downloading as an MB file that is not compatible for importing to Unreal, without Maya I am struggling to find a way to convert this to the FBX file that I need.
As I am still struggling to get anywhere with the hands issue, I am not sure how to complete other tasks without it being resolved. I will use today to try and progress with some other component challenges where possible as I am very concerned with how close it is to the deadline. I am starting by following a tutorial to create the in-world menu system component.
I created a new file fro UI and added a widget component. I added a boarder inside the canvas panel and a vertical box inside that. I added 3 buttons to the vertical box and and text to each of those. Selecting each of the buttons I adjusted the padding and colours to improve the UX/UI. Moving to the graph, I added three new variables, and changed the variable type to text. I then set the default values to 'Press Me' (which I later changed to be more specific). Back in designer, I added an on press event for each of the buttons, in graph I then added set text variables for each of the texts and connected these to their corresponding buttons. I set the text for each text variable the name of the location the button would take you to.
I have completed the steps for the in-world menu but again I can't fully test that it is all in order. While checking what would work in a test run I found out that my door component is no longer responding to my character. This must be because I have altered things as I've tried to fix the character issue. I will go back to the tutorials I used to help me create the door component and find what has changed to resolve this issue.
