I managed to get the software installed on a personal computer. Having sorted this out, I continued researching how to create the assets needed for the assignment. The next task I am looking at is creating a button and lever. I found some tutorials for making a button and followed these. Unfortunately, I hadn't noticed until afterwards that my screenshots of this process did not capture the right window so I don't have much to show of this process.
The tutorials I used already had the modelled assets for the button, so my first step was to create those. I am comfortable with Blender so I created my asset there. I began with a cylinder which I resized along the Z axis to flatten and make the pressable button. I then added another cylinder, repeating the flattening process but making this cylinder slightly bigger. I then used the shortcut 'I' to inset another circle in the top face then 'E' to extrude that down, I then fit the button in the base and adjusted the material colour. I exported this as an FBX file.
With the asset made, I went back to Unreal Engine and imported the button. I then created a new actor blueprint labelled button. Opening this blueprint I dragged the two button assets into the blueprint.
This is all I had time for this week but I am feeling confident that I can complete this task and know what to do next. I feel I am slowly understanding the software better and each task is getting quicker and easier as my understanding and knowledge grow.
