This week I have been working on the door task as planned. Today, I used the YouTube tutorial attached to help me figure out how to create a proximity sliding door.
The attached images show the process I took to create the door and opening animation. I created a blueprint of actor class, which I opened to modify. I added a cube which I shaped into the 'innerdoor' then 3 more to create the 'outerdoor'. I also created a duplicate material which I changed the colour and applied this to the inner door to make it easier for me see the different parts I'm working with. I then added a collision box that will later sense the players proximity and play the opening or closing animation. Then using the nodes and timeline I created the slide down animation for when the player get close to the door and reversed it for when the player is further away.
I have successfully created the door with the sliding animation. However, the proximity aspect is not working as hoped. I believe this is because I do not have a first-person character for the player so I have not linked this into the nodes yet. I plan to research this and hope to fix this issue in the session tomorrow and complete this task.
